To the east of Paris lies the Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte, a 17th-century architectural masterpiece. Commissioned by Nicolas Fouquet and built by Le Vau, Le Brun, and Le Nôtre.
Its style became the foundation of French architecture until the mid-20th century.


Nicolas Fouquet was the Superintendent of Finances under King Louis XIV, known for his lavish lifestyle and the construction of the Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte.
